Bing did not have a theme song when he exploded into the nation's consciousness over network
radio in Sept. 1931. That void was filled by the end of the year. Bing chose The Blue of the Night. Roy Turk and Fred Ahlert wrote the music, Bing wrote the lyrics. He first
recorded the song on Nov. 23. The version included in most anthologies, however, was
recorded on July 17, 1945. Bing himself does the whistling in both recordings.
