Strategic Plan Information

Strategic Plan Components

MCCs Strategic Plan for 2017-2021 consists of five Strategic themes, as follows:

  • Student Success
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Resource Development
  • Culture and Environment
  • Structure and Processes

The  five themes provide overall institutional framework for plan implementation. For each of the 4 years of the Strategic Plan, Institutional Priorities are identified by the Chancellor in consultation with the Executive Cabinet. For Year 1, the Institutional Priorities are Resource Alignment, Major Implementations, Strategic Planning and Effectiveness, Business Processes, and Marketing / Foundation.

Institutional Priorities are used to focus planning efforts. This is critical in project-intake prioritization to facilitate execution of strategic initiatives with the quickest and highest returns on investments to the college.

Development of the Strategic Plan

Development of the 2017-2021 MCC Strategic Plan began in the spring of 2016. During summer 2016, the working groups developed and presented strategies to support each general theme.

MCC engaged the services of the CLARUS Corporation and TWG to evaluate branding and marketing efforts. These data were utilized by the working group in developing their recommendations.

In fall 2016 the college facilitated town hall discussions on each of the six major themes district-wide, using telepresence technology to engage the maximum number of participants. From the facilitated discussions, more than 300 individual tactics were suggested by participants, these were consolidated down to approximately 150 items.

The current Strategic Plan was approved in January 2017 by the MCC Board of Trustees, with minor revisions in September 2017.

Implementation of the Strategic Plan

The Implementation of the Strategic Plan is facilitated by the Office of Enterprise Project Management and Institutional Effectiveness ([EPMO-IE).
MCC’s implementation operates at two levels, functional and operational. At the functional level, the Executive Cabinet members identify yearly priorities along with metrics to measure success in implementation. The EPMO-IE monitors functional progress and reports results semi-annually. The office also provides project governance support for executing enterprise wide strategic initiatives.

In turn, each Executive Cabinet member works with his or own team members to execute strategic plan tactics.
