The Maple Woods Reading and Writing Lab provides a welcoming, supportive environment where students can receive free, individualized assistance for a variety of needs. The Lab also provides a perfect place to study alone or with peers.
Our trained tutors and Learning Specialists offer assistance for writing essays and research papers for any course. We won’t proofread or correct errors, but we will help you recognize errors in organization, grammar, citations, punctuation, and style, and we will teach you strategies to create better papers and to become a stronger writer. Tutoring via Skype is available by appointment.
Our Learning Specialists and tutors provide individualized instruction in reading and study strategies to help students improve comprehension and retention in most courses.
We provide tutoring for different content areas depending on the availability of tutors. Typically we provide help for Psychology, Sociology, History, Philosophy, Speech, and Spanish. Because the availability of tutoring for specific content areas varies, appointments are required.
Appointments are suggested, but not required for one-on-one tutoring in reading or writing. These appointments range from 30 – 60 minutes in length. Walk-in tutoring is also available with no time limit. During walk-in tutoring, students work independently but tutors and Learning Specialists are available to answer questions.
Students who prefer an appointment may schedule an appointment by writing their name in the appointment book in the lab or by calling 816-604-3190.
SKYPE tutoring is available by appointment only during regular hours. Please call for more information.
